During remarks at Atlanta’s First Congregational Church, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) spoke out against President Donald Trump’s bullying of NFL protesters who kneel during the national anthem and described their action as a call to justice.

“Let’s speak the truth that when Americans demand recognition that their lives matter, or kneel to call attention to injustice, that that is an expression of free speech, protected by our Constitution, and they should not be threatened or bullied,” she said.

Harris also connected “The Star Spangled Banner” to “those marching in the streets who demand that the ideals of that flag represent them too.”

The president has repeatedly berated players for exercising their First Amendment rights and suggested that atheletes shouldn’t be able to play in the NFL unless they stand while the anthem is playing.
